DECATUR, Ga. – WorkSource DeKalb is launching Community Blitz SPARK Days at various DeKalb County schools in partnership with the South DeKalb Improvement Association and Community Guilds. Inc.
This initiative will serve as a catalyst to encourage DeKalb County high school students to explore growing career opportunities in engineering and science. Students will have the opportunity to:
- Observe a CNC machine, 3D printer and laser cutter technology in action and discuss the applications and use of these machines.
- Learn about the DJI Phantom 4, a cutting-edge, mid-sized drone. Students will discuss its applications, including videography, crop monitoring, search and rescue, while watching a live video feed as a STEAM Truck staffer pilots the drone.
- Test their pilot skills and learn to fly using first person view radio-controlled drones, which will include a relay race challenge.
Community parents also may learn from the STEAM/STEM initiative, discuss employment and training funding options via WorkSource DeKalb, and receive resources for social and civic engagement to impact the quality of life in their designated communities.
