DECATUR, Ga. – To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Advisory Committee will host a “Let Freedom Ring” bell ringing ceremony at Stone Mountain Park tomorrow, April 4, from noon to 2 p.m. Due to predicted inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at Memorial Hall at the base of the mountain

The ceremony will include remarks from local and state leaders, including Georgia Department of Community Affairs Deputy Commissioner Rusty Haygood, Stone Mountain Mayor Patricia Wheeler and a proclamation presentation by Sen. Emanuel Jones, chairman of the MLK Jr. Advisory Council. DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond will deliver the keynote speech. Thurmond was appointed by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal in August 2017 to the Stone Mountain Memorial Association board of directors.

The event is free and open to the public. A daily parking pass for Stone Mountain Park is $15 per vehicle.
