DECATUR, GA. – Fisher Trail Park is now more accessible and aesthetically pleasing thanks to the volunteer work of a local Eagle Scout.

Eagle Scout Spencer Tomlinson has made various improvements to the park including restoring the rails on the bridge and making it accessible to people with disabilities, removing graffiti, eradicating invasive plants from the trail and collecting trash.

Tomlinson worked with Revonda Cosby, greenspace environment manager of the county’s Department Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, to find a project. Fisher Trail Park, located at 2240 Fisher Trail, Atlanta, was chosen because Tomlinson was an active visitor of the park and felt it needed a facelift.

“I chose Fisher Trail Park because it was near Lakeside High School and this would be a great service project for me to earn my Eagle Scout Badge,” said Tomlinson. “Being outdoors is very therapeutic to me and since declaring my major in environmental science at the University of Georgia for my upcoming freshman year this fall, I wanted to make a positive impact for the community and the environment as a whole.”

Roy Wilson, director of the county’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, said, “This is just another example of the young people and Eagle Scouts of our community contributing to the beautification of our parks. The parks department is grateful to Mr. Tomlinson for his pledge to make our parks better and we are truly appreciative for his invaluable contribution to our park system.”
