DECATUR, Ga. – The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) will host its second Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) Stakeholder Workshop on Thursday, May 25, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at 4572 Memorial Drive, Decatur.

At the workshop, companies permitted by the county’s IPP program will receive updates on organizational and programmatic changes implemented to improve compliance with county rules and ordinances, the Federal Clean Water Act and the Georgia Water Quality Control Act. Attendees also will have an opportunity to discuss the program implementation and ask questions or suggest modifications.

Since DeKalb County is currently under a federally mandated consent decree related to the operation and maintenance of the sewer system, the goal of IPP is to prevent further deterioration of pipes and other parts of the system. The IPP also prevents the introduction of pollutants to county treatment plants that may pass through into rivers, lakes and streams, adversely impacting the environment.

While these requirements have been in place for years, DWM has enhanced enforcement to ensure that the county and industries in the county permitted by the IPP are up to current regulatory standards. Additionally, DWM is actively identifying industries that are required by law to be permitted by the program. DeKalb County’s IPP is under the oversight of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The IPP Workshop is limited to 60 participants and is open to both regulated industries and the public. To reserve space in the workshop, send an email request to IPP@DeKalbCountyGA.gov. General Location:                   The office is located in a shopping center on Memorial Drive, adjacent to I-285 on the northeast side of metro Atlanta, north of I-20 and south of I-78/Stone Mountain Freeway.

From I-285 Northbound:         Take the GA-10/Memorial Drive exit (Exit 41) toward Avondale Estates.  At the end of the exit ramp, turn right and merge onto Memorial Drive/GA-10E toward Stone Mountain. Take a left turn at the first light (George Luther Drive) into the shopping center (Burger King is in the front of the shopping center). The office is at the northeast corner straight back from the entrance light (former Circuit City Store location).

From I-285 Southbound:         Take the GA-10/Memorial Drive exit (Exit 41) toward Avondale Estates.  At the end of the exit ramp, turn left and merge onto Memorial Drive/GA-10E toward Stone Mountain.
