DECATUR, Ga. — In celebration of the Great American Cleanup, DeKalb County Juvenile Court Probation hosted its second Barriers To Beauty program, in partnership with Keep DeKalb Beautiful, on April 3 at the corner of Memorial Drive and Kensington Road.

“This program is a way for young people to express themselves through constructive measures that educate and improve the way our neighborhoods look and feel,” said Terry Sadler, juvenile probation officer principal.

Started by Keep DeKalb Beautiful in 2016, the Barriers to Beauty program attacks blight through the reduction or elimination of illegally dumped tires, construction debris and other items in public spaces. To date, there have been over 100 barriers painted.

“Barriers are intentionally placed in the communities in which they were painted. This is so each participant can see that they can make a positive impact on their environment regardless of age,” said Gordon Burkette, director of Keep DeKalb Beautiful.
