DECATUR, Ga.  – DeKalb County water conservation tips will be featured on WALR Kiss 104.1 FM and WSB 750 –AM 95.5 Talk Radio. The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management is relaunching the “Water Matters” campaign to highlight the importance of conserving water.

Residents can play a very important role in smart water use and can make a difference by following these five simple tips:

  • Water lawns only when needed. Water lawns only in the morning or evening and never water during the afternoon as most of the water will evaporate.
  • Turn water off while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing face and hands. This simple tip can save 100 gallons per week and bigger savings on water bills.
  • Take a quick shower. Conserve even more water by installing a water-efficient showerhead. Reducing shower time by 2 minutes can save 5 gallons per shower.
  • Check for household leaks and get them repaired. A leak of 60 drips a minute wastes 192 gallons a month.
  • Wash vegetables in a bowl filled with water and reuse the water for indoor and outdoor plants.
