DECATUR, Ga.—DeKalb County Government and the Decide DeKalb Development Authority will kick off an update of the county’s development plan at a public meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Maloof Auditorium, located at 1300 Commerce Dr., Decatur.
The existing plan, completed in 2014, needs a significant update to account for the many changes in the local, regional and global economy and, most importantly, the positive transformation that DeKalb County will be undergoing because of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and the ongoing water and sewer capital improvement investments.
“DeKalb County is poised to experience tremendous economic growth over the next several years,” said DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond. “Continued economic development will require that government be effective, efficient and transparent.”
“We are excited about this unique opportunity to present and receive input on our five-year plan’s update from the citizens and stakeholders in DeKalb,” said Don Bolia, chairman of the Decide DeKalb Development Authority. “The ideas that will come from the collaborative process along, with best-practice research, will shape the direction of DeKalb’s economy for decades to come”
Following a brief presentation, there will be a public discussion of the vision for DeKalb’s economic future. In addition, surveys for attendees to fill out, and a 15-second video statement booth for those wishing to record their vision will be available.
