DeKalb County District 1 Commissioner Robert Patrick is set to host a community meeting on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 6:30 p.m. to address the City of Chamblee's proposed annexation of portions of District 1. The gathering is scheduled to take place at the Embry Hill United Methodist Church, located at 3304 Henderson Mill Rd., Atlanta, GA 30341.
On Oct. 31, the City of Chamblee formally notified DeKalb County of its intentions to annex 688.54 acres within District 1 into its municipal jurisdiction. Notable among these areas are Mercer University's Atlanta campus, the Embry Hills neighborhood, and Belaire Circle, all earmarked for inclusion within the city limits of Chamblee. If approved, the City of Chamblee will assume responsibility for essential services such as police, public works, and additional municipal functions starting Jan. 1, 2024. According to the City of Chamblee’s website, “the proposed annexation will add an additional 1,115 registered voters and 3,500 new residents, increasing the city’s population to over 33,500 residents. The City of Chamblee has provided a summary outline of the city services for the proposed annexed areas. Click here to review the proposed plans.”
Thursday's gathering is organized to afford residents and business operators the chance to interact directly with Commissioner Robert Patrick and county officials. This meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about the proposed annexation, DeKalb County and to provide feedback.
