DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has allocated $10,000 in District 7 Coronavirus, Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to the Atlanta Food Bank to assist Soldiers' Angels with mobile food distributions for veterans impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first distribution will take place Friday, Nov. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Atlanta VA Arcadia Clinic, 250 North Arcadia Avenue, Decatur, Ga. 30030.
Each recipient will receive a turkey and a box containing 75 to 100 pounds of food. Candy and select sweet treats also will be provided courtesy of the Soldiers' Angels Treats for Troops Program.
“It is indeed an honor to partner with Soldiers' Angels to provide food boxes designed to deliver quality food to our veterans and military families during the holidays,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “As your commissioner and a citizen concerned with my community, I am dedicated to ensuring our veterans and their families have the resources they need, because they have given unselfishly of themselves to ensure our freedom and liberties.”
Soldiers' Angels is a not-for-profit organization that supports military families, deployed service members, wounded heroes, and veterans of all eras with aid, comfort, programs and resources.
“In 2019, we supported more than 538,300 service members, veterans and their families across the country,” said DeAnna Stansberry, regional director of Soldiers’ Angels. “It is through generous donations and partnerships like these that we are able to continue our efforts yearround.”
Veterans interested in the Nov. 20 food assistance distribution must preregister by visiting www.soldiersangels.org/atlanta.
“Our veterans have placed themselves on the frontline of service to our country,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “It is important we provide the assistance they need as many face economic hardship as a result of COVID-19.”
