Commissioner Larry Johnson Attends the White House for Passage of The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson, in his role as the District 3 Commissioner and president of the National Association of Counties (NACo), will attend an event at the White House for passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

Commissioner Johnson has been selected as part of an esteemed group of influential civic leaders convening in person to join President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for the celebration of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

The $13 billion law includes millions of dollars for mental health, school safety, crisis intervention programs and incentives for states to include juvenile records in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

 “It’s an honor to participate in this event marking the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act,” said Commissioner Larry Johnson. “We welcome these new investments in community safety, including mental health services and school safety. We applaud the White House and our bipartisan partners on Capitol Hill for building consensus and enacting common-sense legislation that will help make our communities safer. Counties look forward to working with our state and federal counterparts to implement these new measures and achieve our local violence prevention priorities.”

Congress passes this historic bipartisan gun legislation one month after the deadly Uvalde, Texas, elementary school shooting that left 21 dead, most of whom were children.
