DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson, in his role as the 1st Vice President of the National Association of Counties Organization (NACo), is participating in the NACo 2020 Virtual Federal Policy Summit.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) 2020 Virtual Federal Policy Summit is currently underway through Oct. 22, and will connect county officials, members of Congress, federal agency partners and other key decision makers and thought leaders. This two-day summit features informative speakers with practical advice on a range of policy issues and updates on the federal policy landscape.

Commissioner Larry Johnson opened the Elections Town Hall segment sharing how voting is a fundamental civic duty for all Americans, and that county officials must work diligently to administer accurate, accessible and secure elections.

“Beyond the traditional requirements, counties are now grappling with even more costly election-related challenges as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic–from providing additional voting options to keeping polling locations clean and complying with social distancing mandates and best practices,” Commissioner Johnson said.

In addition, Commissioner Johnson will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the “NACo Backstage: Armchair Discussion with Dr. Deborah Birx.”  Dr. Birx is the lead coordinator on Vice President Mike Pence’s coronavirus taskforce.  She is also the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and U.S. special representative for Global Health Diplomacy for a chat on vaccines and public health.

Commissioner Johnson will continue to ensure that the local challenges experienced at the county level will gain national attention.
