DECATUR, Ga. – Three children are attending DeKalb County summer day camps for free this year thanks to a gift from a DeKalb business owner.

For the third year in row, a donation by Yolanda Bethea, CEO of Bethea and Associates LLC of Decatur, has made it possible for children to attend an eight-week long summer camp in one of DeKalb’s recreation centers.

“Ms. Bethea is a perfect example of how citizens, and business owners in particular, can partner with DeKalb County to improve the quality of life for our youngest residents,” said DeKalb Interim CEO Lee May. “We appreciate Ms. Bethea’s commitment to giving back to the community.”

“It’s just sort of a win-win to be able to provide an opportunity for children to experience a summer filled with entertaining activities and to allow parents to go to work and know that their kids are safe.” Bethea said. “I love giving back to the community and it is very easy when kids are the center of the cause.”

Bethea’s donation pays for the 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekday camp where youth engage in various physical, creative and educational activities. They also receive a healthy lunch and snack each day, provided by the Summer Food Service Program.

“The parks department is grateful to Ms. Bethea for her unwavering commitment to the children in our community,” said Roy Wilson, director of the county’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs. “Ms. Bethea has provided scholarships over the past three years at an approximate cost of $4,000 and we are truly appreciative for this invaluable resource and partnership.”
