County Energy and Environmental Management Plan
In 2011, the county completed a comprehensive study that identified current initiatives and recommended actions for becoming more energy effiient, conservation-oriented and environmentally sustainable. This plan is the foundation for future sustainability actions. Click here to read the report.
Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Certified
As part of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Green Communities Program, DeKalb County has earned Silver Certification. The Green Communities Program recognizes communities in the metro Atlanta region that implement policies and practices to support sustainability and reduce overall environmental impact. Among the County’s innovative green initiatives are:
• The Lights Out, Power Down energy conservation policy
• The Green Energy facility at the Seminole Road landfill
• Certified LEED buildings
• The Green Fleet policy for county vehicles
• Low-flow plumbing fixture replacement ordinance
• The new, efficient ozone system at the county jail laundry facilities

Green Commission
